"Golden State" incredibly adept and delivered by an author of exceptional qualities. (Remo Ricaldone)
"This mainly folk album could well be the comeback for Penny Nichols." (Lambert Smits)
"Penny Nichols is a singer-songwriter who lived most of her life in Southern California where She has worked with lots of great artists. That's why she May refer to Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt and Jennifer Warnes as "my friends." Her latest album "Golden State" is a nostalgic recollection of events, meetings and good memories during her exciting life in a world full of music. "- Www.rootstime.be
“Guadalupe” with is bilingual attraction and a feel somewhere in between Tish Hinojosa and Kimmie Rhodes you have a song awash in a warm Spanish rhythm enough to have me marking against it 5-stars, and listing it as something I must hear again. With her beautiful tones exuding simple loving melodies to share at will “Poco..” likewise has a wonderful melodic Borderland flow run through it. With some delightful vocal harmonies, electric lead guitar and shuffling beat “Kick The Can” offers something different. Good it is too. While the remaining tracks don’t posses the same attraction, but her lyrics on the likes of 1970s fashioned “Mr. Sad Eyes” still posses a whole load of quality, sensitive more often than not they are too. Colors of the Sun: Penny Nichols Sings the early songs of Jackson Browne
Memories have a way of following you around and as I look back, I remember the fall of '66 as the beginning of my long and close friendship with Jackson Browne. I had just returned from Vietnam in August and went to the Paradox in Tustin, CA, where a bunch of us folkies and singer/songwriters would get together for an open mic. Jack was there. It was early evening and we went out back behind the club and shared a smoke together. I remember walking down the dark alley next to Jack and looking up at the neon blue sky with an early silver moon riding high and thinking "this is good." - Penny Nichols
The CD includes renditions of 12 favorite Jackson Browne songs from one of his oldest friends accompanied by many who have sung and played with Jackson over the years.
